Reebok Nano X5 Review: The Best All-Rounder for CrossFit in 2026
The Reebok Nano X5 splits the difference between lifting stability and running comfort better than any CrossFit shoe at this price. Wider toe box, midfoot sleeve, Flexweave upper — it's the best all-rounder for athletes who lift heavy AND run far.

Reebok Nano X5 Review: The Best All-Rounder CrossFit Shoe
The Nano line is CrossFit's other standard. Where Nike owns the lifting-first market with the Metcon, Reebok has always positioned the Nano toward athletes who want more from their shoe across all domains — including the ones that require actual running.
The Nano X5 is the most balanced version of that philosophy yet.
What's New in the X5
The Nano X5 refines three areas over the X4:
Wider Flexweave upper. The Nano's signature Flexweave upper (woven textile that provides stretch and durability simultaneously) has been updated with a new construction that allows more lateral toe spread. The X5 is the widest Nano in the line's history.
Updated midsole cushioning. The X5 uses a Floatride Energy foam midsole component in the forefoot — more cushioning than previous Nanos, more than the Metcon 10. This is meaningful for athletes running anything over 800 meters in training.
Revised midfoot sleeve. The internal sleeve that wraps the midfoot for lockdown has been updated to improve comfort during extended wear without sacrificing the locked-down feel during lifting.
Fit and Sizing
The Nano X5 fits true to size for most athletes. The wider toe box accommodates natural foot splay and suits athletes who've found the Metcon narrow.
The midfoot sleeve adds lockdown that lacing alone can't provide — it's a meaningful feature for athletes who struggle with heel slip during box jumps or rope climbs.
Lifting Performance
Back squat/front squat: Excellent. The heel is flat and stable. Not quite the Metcon's extreme heel firmness, but sufficient for any CrossFit loading.
Olympic lifts: The X5 performs well for CrossFit-standard Olympic lifting. Like all flat-heeled training shoes, athletes with mobility limitations in the squat who'd benefit from heel elevation should use a lifted shoe or wedge.
Deadlift: Very good. Marginally more forefoot cushion than the Metcon means you're 2-3mm higher off the floor, which is academic at CrossFit loads.
Conditioning Performance
This is where the X5 pulls ahead of the Metcon 10:
Running: The Floatride Energy foam makes a noticeable difference at distances of 400m and up. Athletes running 5K+ in training will feel the difference between the X5 and Metcon acutely. If your programming includes frequent running, this matters.
Box jumps: Better cushioned landings than the Metcon. The forefoot foam compression on repeated box jump landings makes a cumulative difference in a long session.
Rope climbs: The rope wrap is present and functional but not at the Metcon 10's level. Athletes doing heavy rope climb volume should consider the Metcon specifically for that capability.
Durability
The Flexweave upper is one of the most durable uppers in the CrossFit shoe market. Expected to outlast most alternatives at 4-5 training days/week:
- Upper: 18+ months without visible damage (Flexweave resists lateral tearing better than standard textile) - Outsole: 15-18 months before significant wear patterns - Rope wrap: 9-12 months with regular rope climbing — shorter lifespan than Metcon
Nano X5 vs. Metcon 10: The Decision
| Factor | Nano X5 | Metcon 10 | |--------|---------|-----------| | If you run >2km regularly | ✅ | ❌ | | Wide feet | ✅ | ❌ | | Heavy rope climbs | ❌ | ✅ | | Maximum lifting stability | ❌ | ✅ | | Breathability | ✅ | Equal | | Price | $160 | $150 |
The X5 is the better shoe for athletes who run frequently in their CrossFit programming or who have wider feet. The Metcon 10 is better for athletes who prioritize rope climbing performance and maximum lifting stability.
Final Score: 4.6/5
The slight edge over the Metcon 10 reflects the better fit range (wider toe box) and the conditioning versatility. For athletes who need a single shoe that handles everything at a high level, the Nano X5 is the answer in 2026.
