CrossFit Definition – What does CrossFit Mean to You?


It’s going to take you several big books to perfectly describe the human body, because it’s that amazing. We go through our daily routine and “expect” our bodies to function properly. But we don’t really take the time to consider how incredible they can be. And this is what the CrossFit Definition is all about – realizing that you are capable of so much more.

Before getting into more detail about CrossFit and what it is, let’s take an interesting detour. Did you know that you really are stronger than you think? In fact, your muscles are too strong for their own good. Your body naturally limits your power in order to protect your muscles and tendons. However, an adrenaline rush releases these limitations, giving you a burst of incredible power.

It’s also interesting to note that humans are the best long distance runners within the animal kingdom. According to research, the hunting skills of people thousands of years ago included running after their prey until the prey finally couldn’t run anymore. And what about the fact that a full head of human hair is capable of carrying 12 tons?

The point is, your body is seemingly limitless if you train it the right way.

The Physical Part of CrossFit

Greg Glassman is the guy who perfected CrossFit over several decades. His inspiration for this specific way of exercising was to dramatically increase intensity, while forcing the whole body to go through it’s paces. More intensity means better results, and as mentioned earlier, more power.

The movements mimic those we do every day, only on a more concentrated and intense level. From sprinting and weight lifting to rope climbs and pushups, everything happens at your maximum ability for as long as you can keep it up. You are literally preparing yourself for unexpected moments where your body needs to react at it’s best.

The Mental Part of CrossFit

But CrossFit is just as much a mental challenge as it is physical. Don’t think for one second you are going to kill a WOD if your mind isn’t in the right place. Sometimes it’s your way of thinking that will carry you through those last seconds or reps.

Some good tips for controlling your mental state is to stop thinking inside the future. Only focus on the one rep you have to finish right now and keep counting. You want to get into a rhythm where your body and mind doesn’t register the difficulty of the following rep. But this is just one way of doing things. Whatever helps to get you through a WOD, whether it’s rock music in the background or a partner yelling by your side, use it.

The Personal Side of CrossFit

CrossFit is more than just an extreme exercise regime. It’s also a fast growing community that will see you getting support from more experienced athletes. You will learn how to better yourself physically and mentally quicker than you ever thought possible.
